What’s Your Biggest Regret?
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” -(1835 – 1910)
Regret. We all have one or two in our lives. We have all made decisions we just aren’t proud of – we’ve made mistakes. We might even wish that we could turn back time and do things differently. Our regrets have an impact on our lives going forward. They can either be lessons learned that propel us forward, or mental baggage that weigh us down and hold us back.
Dr. Anthony Campolo, Professor of Sociology, Eastern College, St. Davids, Pennsylvania, shares the results of a survey where 50 people 95 years and older were asked: “If you could live your life over what would you do differently?” Here is what they said they would do if the could live their lives over again:
- Reflect more.
- Risk more.
- Do things that would outlast them.
In essence, they had things they regretted. Problem was, at age 95, they really couldn’t do anything about changing them. Time had come and gone.
You can’t get time back, you know.
What do you regret? What is your biggest regret?
I know what mine is to this point in my life. I have many things I wish I wouldn’t have done…many regrets. But the big one – the one that keeps awake at night – concerns something I haven’t done. Thankfully, I am not 95 years old yet.
How about you? What is your biggest regret?
It brought me to tears…

We Asked People To Tell Us Their Biggest Regrets — But What They All Had In Common Was Heartbreaking
A blackboard stood in the middle of New York City asking passersby to write down their biggest regrets. At first, each regret seemed different and unique. After all, everyone has a different story. But as the board filled up, we noticed that all of these responses had one alarming thing in common.
Watch the video to see the surprising reveal.
Nice twist at the end.
Let’s decide to do the things we would regret NOT doing.
